Scientific and Scholarly Criticism
Evidence-based assessments of an article's arguments, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, interpretation, or conclusions.
Journal of Management, Education and Communication (JMEC) encourages responsible scholarly dialogue after publication. The journal welcomes constructive comments, critical evaluations, and evidence-based discussions that contribute to the development of knowledge and the integrity of the scholarly record.
JMEC recognizes that scholarly communication continues after an article has been published. Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and readers to examine published findings, clarify interpretations, identify limitations, and contribute new perspectives to academic debate.
The journal supports fair, respectful, transparent, and evidence-based discussion. All comments and responses must comply with standards of academic integrity, research ethics, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
JMEC may consider scholarly comments and discussions relating to articles published in the journal, including the following:
Evidence-based assessments of an article's arguments, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, interpretation, or conclusions.
Constructive observations concerning research design, data analysis, measurement, interpretation, limitations, or the reproducibility of reported findings.
Reasoned alternative explanations, theoretical perspectives, or contextual insights that may enrich understanding of the published work.
Reports of factual errors, unclear statements, missing information, or other issues that may require clarification or correction of the published article.
Evidence-based concerns relating to data reliability, plagiarism, undisclosed competing interests, authorship, research ethics, or other possible publication misconduct.
Discussions of the theoretical, educational, managerial, communication, policy, or practical implications of published findings.
Readers who wish to comment on an article published in JMEC may contact the editorial office using the journal's official contact details or submission channel. Where available, the journal may use an OJS discussion feature or another designated channel to facilitate scholarly exchange.
Comments should be focused, proportionate, and relevant to the published work. The editorial office may request revisions or clarification before considering a comment for publication.
Post-publication comments may be assessed by the editor-in-chief or a designated editor before publication. This assessment is intended to ensure scholarly relevance, factual clarity, professional conduct, and compliance with the journal's editorial policies.
The editorial office checks whether the comment concerns an article published in JMEC and whether it falls within the scope of post-publication discussion.
The editor considers the clarity of the argument, supporting evidence, relevance, potential ethical issues, and whether independent expert advice is necessary.
When a comment raises substantive questions about an article, the original authors may be invited to respond within a reasonable period.
The editor determines whether the comment and any response should be published, revised, referred for further assessment, or declined, based on the evidence and applicable policies.
When a published article is subject to substantive scholarly criticism, JMEC may invite the original author or authors to provide a response. The opportunity to respond is intended to promote balanced academic discussion and clarify issues raised by the comment.
Responses must address the issues raised, rely on appropriate evidence, and maintain a professional tone. Authors are not required to agree with the criticism, but their responses should engage with the substantive arguments presented.
JMEC may publish a comment alongside the corresponding author response when appropriate. A right of reply does not guarantee publication, and editorial decisions remain subject to the journal's review criteria.
Post-publication discussion may reveal issues that require action beyond a comment and response. JMEC will assess such matters according to the nature of the concern, the available evidence, and the potential effect on the reliability of the published record.
A correction may be published when a verified error requires amendment or clarification but does not invalidate the overall reliability of the article.
An expression of concern may be issued when significant questions have arisen but the available evidence or investigation is not yet sufficient for a final conclusion.
Retraction may be considered when serious problems, such as unreliable findings or established publication misconduct, meet the applicable criteria for retraction.
These actions are editorial measures intended to maintain the accuracy and transparency of the scholarly record. They will not be imposed solely because an article has been criticized or because the authors disagree with a particular interpretation.
Allegations involving possible fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical research practices, manipulated peer review, or other serious misconduct will be handled under JMEC's applicable research misconduct and publication ethics policies.
The editorial office may request relevant information, consult independent experts, contact the authors, or refer the matter to the appropriate institution or authority when warranted. The journal will assess the evidence fairly and will not treat an unverified allegation as an established finding.
All participants in post-publication discussion must avoid personal attacks, harassment, discriminatory language, threats, and unsupported accusations. Criticism should focus on the scholarly work, evidence, methods, and conclusions rather than the personal characteristics of the individuals involved.
JMEC may decline, edit, or request revision of submissions that violate these standards, subject to applicable policy and editorial judgment. The journal will also take reasonable steps to protect confidential information and personal data during the handling of comments and responses.
Editorial moderation must be applied fairly and consistently. Disagreement with an article or its conclusions, by itself, is not a sufficient reason to suppress legitimate scholarly criticism.
Where comments, responses, corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions are published, JMEC will seek to make their relationship to the original article clear. Persistent links, DOI connections, and appropriate notices should be used where available and technically supported.
The journal aims to preserve the scholarly record and provide readers with relevant information needed to understand the discussion and any subsequent editorial action.
Comments, responses, and concerns relating to articles published in JMEC may be submitted through the journal's official contact details listed on its website.
Please identify the relevant article and provide a concise explanation of the issue, together with supporting evidence or references where available. Research integrity concerns should be clearly distinguished from scholarly disagreement.
